About Us

“Two epic races, one iconic river.” This is the motto for rioraces.com which is a website created to highlight and co-promote two uniquely Colorado races. Both races take place on or along the banks of the Rio Grande in Alamosa Colorado. The Rio Grande is the lifeblood for Alamosa and the surrounding San Luis Valley region: It sustains our local agricultural and outdoor recreation economies and is the cultural epicenter of our community.

The Rio Frio 5k, famously is ran on the frozen Rio Grande the last weekend in January and takes place in conjunction with the annual Ice Fest. The Valley Bottom Rio Trio, scheduled annually for early June, is an adventure-style triathlon that includes biking, paddling, and running along and on the Rio Grande.

Both races are organized by Alamosa Parks and Recreation; however it takes a village to pull off events of this magnitude. San Luis Valley Great Outdoors, Visit Alamosa, Adams State University, and a host of other public and private partner organizations provide time, resources, and people.

A large part of the Alamosa community is behind rioraces.com. However, here are a few key organizations and personnel working behind the scenes:
