Never fear, the Rio Frio 5K will go on one way or another! The weather this year has been so warm in Alamosa that it hasn't allowed the Rio Grande to freeze. :( However, it has been cold enough to freeze the lake at nearby Blanca Vista Park. Check out this alternative route...the start/finish will be in Cole Park and you will still get the experience of running or walking on ice by doing one large loop and a smaller one around our new Ice Carousel! If we don't get snow before the race, it will be important to wear some kind of aid for traction (something similar to YakTrax or you can put screws into the bottom of your running shoes). The views of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains are even more dramatic from the lake - it will be a very special experience, so try not to miss it!
